Former four division world champion Mikey Garcia wants a certain level of redemption next month, when he faces two division champion Jessie Vargas on February 29.

The contest takes place at the welterweight limit of 147 at Ford Center at the Star in Frisco, Texas.

The bout will be the first for Garcia since suffering a one-sided twelve round decision loss to IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence in March of last year.

Garcia (39-1 30 KOs) could have easily went back down in weight, where the fighters are closer to his size.

But he strongly believes that there is unfinished business at 147 - where he needs to face and overcome an opponent Vargas (29-2-2 11 KOs).

Vargas has only two defeats on his record - with the losses coming at the hands of Timothy Bradley and Manny Pacquiao. Vargas was exploring the idea of heading up to junior middleweight, but he's holding that off, for now, to face Garcia.

After the Vargas bout is in the books, Garcia will explore his options at 140 and 147.

"I do feel that 140 would be a better weight for me to compete at, but the last fight left a very bad taste in my mouth. I want to clear that up, I want to show everyone that there is a lot more to Mikey Garcia. That's why we decided to go to 147 and fight Jessie Vargas. Once that's done, we can explore all of the options at 140 as well, I just want to get this one done first," Garcia said to BoxingScene.com.

"I'll have a lot of options. I can compete at any weight that I'm comfortable at. I wasn't able to show that in my last fight, and that's why I want to show my fans that I am a contender - even at welterweight. I'll have the ability to go down and fight at 140 and there are some big fights at welterweight. I'm not ruling out the possibility of going back down to 140 or staying at 147."
