Newly crowned WBO featherweight champion Miguel Angel Garcia (31-0, 26 KOs) is recovering after his recent win against Orlando Salido (39-12-2, 27 KOs) which took place at Madison Square Garden in New York last month. The unbeaten fighter from Oxnard dominated the Mexican veteran, but suffered a broken nose due to an accidental headbutt. The bout ended by technical decision in the eighth round.

“My nose is better now. I had surgery and it’s healing well. During the fight, after the headbutt, it felt a little difficult to breath from one side of my nose. The doctors saw the broken nose and felt it was dangerous to continue with the fracture and decided it was best to stop the fight,” Garcia said to boxingbet.pl.

25-year old “Mikey” plans to be back in the ring late spring and doesn’t rule out a unification in 2013.

“We plan on defending the title in May or June. We want to unify the title soon after. We don’t have any names in mind yet, but my promoter and manager will handle that. My next goal is to unify the title. I want to prove I’m the best featherweight in the world. I think I can move to the super featherweight division in the future, but right now I’m staying here. I fight because I like the competition. I like the challenge. The motivation is my family. I want to better my family and be able to provide for them”.
