This past Sunday, "The Cornermen" had the chance to sit down with undefeated prospect "Fly" Mike Marshall aka "The Hood Olympian".  Jesse Rican, Flawless and myself spoke to him about several topics including his fight falling through last Saturday, sparring, Curtis Stevens vs. David Lemieux, Danny Jacobs vs Peter Quillin and the difference between amateurs and pros.  Here are some of the highlights:

On his fight falling through this past Saturday:

What happened was we showed up at the weigh in and the guy never showed up. We weighed in at 173 with clothes off. After the guy didn't show up they were scrambling to find another opponent. His name is Will Williams and he is (0-2). I said ok we are waiting for an opponent. The promoter was scrambling last minute. I didn't care as long as I weighed in. I really didn't care as long as I got food in my body so I said let me weigh in. Then I could get ready. Dude never showed up, apparently he didn't board the plane.

The next day a guy named Bogart Washington was supposed to fight a kid named Nathan Miller and something happens to Bogart so he wasn't able to fight. They wanted me to fight Nathan.  I am (1-0) he is (6-0) so something was telling me to do this. I said let's do it. I came here to fight. I sold tickets to the Mohegan Sun. My peoples are from New York and they are coming from two hours away so I'm like let's do it. I obviously didn't care. Me and my team talked about it and five minutes later they found out who I was, what I can do. They were like 'no we are not taking it.' Then all the sudden  Bogart Washington got magically approved to fight. I was like 'it is crazy sometimes' but I realize that is the beginning of my career so I can't say too much. Now I am in the process of calling out Nathan Miller for December 18th.  Even though he is (7-0) and I am (1-0) we can make that happen.

This is boxing. We are here to fight. I don't get it I am here to cash checks. I am NOT in the business to play around and say this guy is too tough. In the amateurs I had to fight the number one guy more than once. I had to fight the top guy and I would find out the same day. Why are these fighters doing this now. You already have a lousy record. Come get your ass whooped and get a check. We both go home happy.

On his sparring resume:

My resume as far as that is extensive. I have been in the ring with everyone from New York. The list is real long. Right now I train with Tito Vargas, his so is #1 in the US right now and is about to make his pro debut.  My management team is Richard Romance and Havoc Management with Andre Rozier.  Andre Rozier is actually my uncle and by being with him I have been in numerous training camps.  I have been in camp with Danny Jacobs and Curtis Stevens.  So many names.  I have been in camp with so many guys in my boxing career and I just turned pro. I know a lot of people man. The list is long so many names man.

On who would win if Curtis Stevens faced David Lemieux:

Curtis is family. I was just talking to Curtis. Its up to Curtis that's how talented he is. To me Curtis can beat anybody. To me Curtis would have beat Triple G that night. I was at the fight front row. He could have beat Triple G. It was somewhere when he was on the ropes Triple G can't fight going backward. When Curtis was pushing him back with power shots I was like oh s*** he had him but let it go away. If the Curtis I know shows up he will beat Lemieux but if the Curtis that fought N'Dam shows up it could go either way. I'm never going to say Curtis will lose but the Curtis I know will smash all of these dudes.  I feel David Lemieux was a paper champ, no disrespect to him. He is a puncher and everything but I see no real skill with him. Anyone with real skill can beat him.

On Danny Jacobs vs Peter Quillin:

I am close friends with both Guy and I really don't want to make any predictions but I think it's going to be a good fight. I think it will be real competitive. It will be like Hagler Hearns of this era as far as New York City Boxing. It's really going to be good. I think you guys will be in for a treat.

I don't want to give a prediction because I don't want no ill will. I can sit here and talk s*** but I have to see these guys. Real Talk, I can say he is going to win where he is going to win but I have to go in the gym and look these guys in their face while talking to them. I can't be one way on the radio and one way to their face so respectfully I just say you know. I've been asked on the other interviews but I rather not say.

On the difference between amateur and pro boxing:

I would say it's very different. I didn't adapt to fighting like an amateur until I got into the pros. Well not adapt but understand until the pros. I have always been fighting like a pro. I had 30 Fights and had more losses that I had Winn because of my style not because I was a bad fighter. It was my style. I always fought like a pro. I took my time. In the amateurs you can't do that. You have to go out there and score and know how to score. The pros I got in there able to sit down and take my time. Hear things, see things, hit him here boom! Hit him there boom! It is two different worlds. In the amateurs you are scoring. If I throw a job and your head snaps back it's a score but if I throw a job in the pros it's to feint   you and hit you with something else.

I am good at bringing the pain. I am NOT good at scoring points. I do better in the pros and a lot of people said that while I was an amateur. I am here to hurt or get hurt. It's two different worlds. I respect everyone doing there thing in the amateurs because it's hard. To succeed in amateur boxing is harder than pro boxing.
