Laredo, Texas - Coming in from Guadalajara, Miguel "Puppet" Vazquez, third ranked at lightweight by the International Boxing Federation (IBF), has already reached Laredo, Texas, where he will fight on Saturday for the vacant lightweight title. His opponent will be the dangerous Korean fighter Ji Hoon Kim, who heads the ranking list.

The evening that Top Rank and Zanfer assembled at the Laredo Energy Arena, Vazquez, aka "Puppet" has come a long way since winning the championship in the rookie tournament in Mexico City. Now he will have his first opportunity to become a World Champion. The evening will be broadcast by TV Azteca in all of Mexico and on Fox Sports throughout the United States.

The "Puppet" Vazquez (25-3, 12 KO's) comes from defeating the perpetrator who knocked out English fighter Amir Kahn, Breidiss Prescott, in an extraordinary bout in Las Vegas last year that catapulted the fighter from Jalisco to dispute for this world belt.

Miguel, 23, closed strong in the final stage of his preparation and will now seek to cap the run of four straight wins by defeating Kim (21-5, 18 KOs), who will be in only his fourth fight on American soil.

"We are in Laredo with my team, we closed out training camp last Sunday in Los Angeles and we are ready to achieve the dream of every boxer, to be crowned world champion," said Vazquez

The fighter from Guadalajara expects that the fight against the Korean will be a tough encounter fought at a great pace given the characteristics of the Asian.

"Hoon Kim is a strong puncher. This will be a battle of styles. I feel confident I'll take the win," Vazquez said, who is promoted by Zanfer.

In support of this act, Mikey Garcia (22-0, 18 KOs), will have his first trial by fire when he faces the idol of Detroit, Cornelius Lock in a fight qualifying the winner to become the official challenger to the IBF featherweight title held by Mexican boxer Orlando Salido.
