Fresh from his wins over former world champions Juan Carlos Salgado and Daniel Ponce de Leon, hard-punching Miguel "Mickey" Román (46-11, 35KOs) is looking to face another dangerous puncher, also from Mexico, Sergio "Yeyo" Thompson (29-3, 26KOs). Roman is hoping a win over Thompson will lead to a crack at the super featherweight championship of the World Boxing Council (WBC), which is held by Takashi Miura of Japan.

"I would like to fight Sergio Thompson, who already has the experience of challenging Miura and a win over him would open up the door to a title fight. I know that Yeyo Thompson represents a great challenge, but I am in my moment and I know that I can win," Roman said.
