The uncertainty caused by the coronavirus has forced Miguel Cotto's promotional company, Miguel Cotto Promotions, to postpone their planned event that was scheduled for August 22 in San Juan.

The new working date for the event is October 17.

The determination, announced 11 days before the celebration of the event, was made in connection to the recent reports from the Department of Health on the coronavirus, the number of active cases and deaths; the uncertain political climate and the certainty that the government will not lift the restrictions imposed on sporting events for the next few weeks.

“We have made this decision due to the uncertainty in the country. We were expecting positive news from the governor on August 1, which has not happened. We are 11 days away from the event, and as we do not have confirmation from the government to be able to promote the event, we made the decision to cancel it," declared Héctor Soto, vice president of Miguel Cotto Promotions, to Sara Hernandez.

“The Secretary of Health (Lorenzo González) said yesterday that he saw a very uphill battle for classes to resume (face-to-face) on August 17 due to the rise in COVID-19 cases and the increase in deaths. Therefore, I imagine that sports will continue to stop until the country normalizes. There is uncertainty."

Soto pointed out that Danielito Zorrilla and Óscar Collazo will continue to be the protagonists of what could be the first event to be held in Puerto Rico after the emergency closure decreed in March by the government, when the coronavirus pandemic broke out all over the world.

The venue for the event will remain the same: the Pedrín Zorrilla Coliseito, in San Juan. It would also be a closed doors event, mimicking the bubbles that Top Rank and the NBA have created.
