A press conference was held at the Congo Room at L.A. Live on Wednesday afternoon to formally announce Miguel Cotto's August 26th bout versus Yoshihiro Kamegai at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. Cotto has just recently entered into a multi-fight deal with Golden Boy Promotions.

The past couple of years had seen him under the Roc Nation Sports banner, where he faced the likes of Daniel Geale and then Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez. Recently, the two sides split.

But Cotto told BoxingScene.com - "I have nothing bad to say about them, I enjoyed our relationship. I think it was fruitful for both sides but we just decided that we need to split and move on. Just to have the best for both sides."

After losing his middleweight title to Saul Alvarez on November of 2015, Cotto sat out all of last year leading some to believe he was contemplating retirement but he made it clear - "I'm here because I want to be here and I know that I still have boxing in me."

As for what he did last year away from the ring, the typically stoic Puerto Rican star explained - "I just decided to move back to my home and rest again."

Cotto, who's legacy in boxing has long been established, doesn't have all that many goals left to accomplish in the sport having won major titles from junior welterweight all the way to middleweight and becoming one of the games marquee attractions.

He says simply - "All I want to do is finish my career the best way possible."

As it stands now he has a record of 40-5 (33 KO's) and will turn 37 years old in October. So just how long does he have in the sport?

"I'm looking through December 31st as my last day as a professional boxer. We'll see what happens next,"he stated."
