WBC super featherweight champion Miguel "Alacran" Berchelt is now in the strongest stage of his training camp, working hard for the upcoming defense of his world title against against former champion Cristian ¨Diamante¨ Mijares.

The match was finalized last week, and is scheduled to take place on February 10 in Cancun, Quintana Roo.

"Alacrán" Berchelt (32-1, 28 KOs) was born in Cancun, Quintana Roo, and he has not fought in his homeland since July 2011 and now he is returning to his people as a proud world champion.

The idea of fighting at home has really motivated him in training camp.

"I am so excited. I am so motivated. It is amazing to think I will be in front of my people as a world champion. I had a wonderful childhood on my beloved Cancun. Back then, I used to dream on becoming world champion and now that is exactly what I am - the WBC champ. I promise I will give my people an amazing demonstration," Berchelt said.

Everything in camp is going as planned and his weight has been creeping down as he intended.

“The weight has never been a problem for me, I'm a natural super featherweight. I always train hard. My coach, Alfredo, designed a great training plan to be prepared for Mijares and we're doing very well. I can not being overconfident right now, especially with someone that experienced as Mijares," Berchelt concluded.

Last year Berchelt burst on the scene with two HBO televised victories.

In January, he captured the WBC world title with a stoppage victory over heavily favored Francisco Vargas. He returned to the ring only a few months later, and dominated mandatory challenger Takashi Miura over twelve rounds of action.

He was then scheduled to fight for a third time, last month against former champion Orlando Salido in Las Vegas. The fight was called off when Berchelt suffered a hand injury in training camp. Berchelt was replaced by Miguel Roman, who stopped Salido in the ninth round.
