Poliorum Zamna in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico - WBC super featherweight champion Miguel “Alacrán” Berchelt (34-1, 30 KOs) demolished former world champion Jonathan Víctor “Yoni” Barros (41–6-1, 22 KOs) in three rounds.

Berchelt was in full command from the start, and put down Barros with a left hook at the end of the second round.

Barros was able to survive the carnage, but he was dropped again in the third - and then his corner stopped the contest to prevent further damage.

Berchelt will now have to make a mandatory world title defense against Miguel Roman.

The contest with Roman will take place in the coming months - and then Berchelt, should he win, wants a showdown with one of the other champions like WBA king Gervonta Davis.

Berchelt captured the world title in January of last year, when he stopped Francisco Vargas.

He retained the belt with a dominating decision over Takashi Miura over twelve rounds in July 2017. And then came back in February with a stoppage win over Maxwell Awuku in three rounds.

Barros was coming off a twelve round decision loss to then IBF featherweight champion Lee Selby.

Prior to that loss, he had won seven bouts in a row.

The only other boxer to gain a stoppage win over Barros was Mikey Garcia, who put him away in eight rounds back in November of 2012.
