Michel Rivera is champing at the bit to get his hands on Subriel Matias.

Rivera (25-1, 14 KOs), of the Dominican Republic, has made it known on several occasions that he is interested in facing Matias (20-1, 20 KOs) for a shot at his IBF super lightweight title. Rivera also wants to make it known that he has no problem with facing Matias in his homeland of Puerto Rico.

Matias, who recently signed with Matchroom Boxing, reportedly has had talks with Liam Paro and Elvis Rodriguez fizzle out. Rivera said that is because of the low purses that Matias’ team has offered for potential rivals to travel to his home turf.

“Why do you think they haven’t announced Matias’ opponent or fight yet?” Rivera said. “That is because there isn’t one quality fighter that will go to Puerto Rico for the type of money they are offering. Who is going to go to Puerto Rico for $80,000? Elvis didn’t accept it, and no one else will either. They need to get with the times and make realistic offers.”

Rivera bounced back from his first career defeat with an impressive unanimous decision over former champion Sergey Lipinets in November and is now seeking a title shot.

“I am ready, willing and able to fight Matias anywhere, whether it’s in the U.S. or in his hometown,” Rivera told Boxing Scene. “I have no problem giving him a loss in front of all of his people in his hometown, but I think deep down he doesn’t want a real challenge and he is proving that to be true by making these bulls*** offers that no fighter will accept.

“Let’s see if his team has the balls to make a real offer and then I will accept the challenge. I have no problem with f***ing Matias up in what is supposed to be his homecoming fight. I am ready and waiting for a real offer from his team. If we don’t receive the offer, then we know he never really wanted the fight.”

Matias fought twice in 2023, stopping Shohjahon Ergashev and Jeremias Ponce.
