Michel Rivera (21-0) will look to close out his 2021 campaign with his third knockout of the year on October 30th when he takes on Jose Matias Romero (24-1) of Argentina.
The lightweight showdown will open up a Showtime tripleheader that is headlined my Jamal James first welterweight title defense against Radzhab Butaev (13-0). Unbeaten welterweight contender Jarron Ennis will face former world title challenger Thomas Dulorme in the co-featured bout.
In February, Rivera stopped Anthony Mercado in eight rounds and he followed that up with another eight round knockout against Jon Fernandez in July.
Rivera feels that Matias is a very good boxer but that he is on another level and that it will show on fight night.
“He is a good fighter with a good record but I am more than ready to win this fight. I believe that I am the superior fighter in every aspect but it is an interesting fight that I will win,” Rivera told BoxingScene.com.
This will be the 23-year-old Dominican Republic native’s first fight on the Las Vegas strip. He plans on making the night memorable.
“I am very excited to fight in Las Vegas. It will be an incredible experience. I plan on putting on a spectacular performance,” Rivera stated.
With a win over Romero, Rivera will be on the cusp of a title shot. He is ranked in the top 15 of all four major sanctioning bodies including a #2 ranking in the WBA.
