Rising lightweight prospect Michel Rivera (20-0) will take the next step forward with his career on July 3rd when he faces Spain’s Jon Fernandez (21-1) in a WBA lightweight eliminator.

The fight will take place at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California. The bout will be broadcast by Showtime along with Chris Colbert's world title defense, against an opponent to be determined, in the super featherweight main event.

Rivera is very excited to be in a high profile fight with major implications. However, he does admit that he doesn’t know a lot about his opponent. The 23-year-old just knows that he has a golden opportunity that is just two weeks away.

“Well, I don’t know a lot about my opponent but I know that he is a good fighter and that is an opportunity to fight in an eliminator. I have worked hard to get to this point and God has guided me here. Nothing is going to stop me from making history. It will be a great fight,” Rivera told BoxingScene.com.

The Dominican Republic native has had a great training camp and is looking forward to fight night finally arriving.

Rivera bears a resemblance to the legendary Muhammad Ali and has said on various occasions that he plans on fighting like him and that he is the lighter weight version of the all time great.

“I am the reincarnation of the greatest of all time. I will shine again on July 3rd,” Rivera stated.

His last ring appearance took place on February 27th when he defeated Anthony Mercado via 8th round knockout.
