York Hall, Bethnal Green, London -  In a battle of two tired fighters, Michael Sprott (40-21, 17KOs) won his second Prizefighter tournament with a three round unanimous decision over Jason Gavern (24-16-4, 11KOs). The scores were 29-28, 30-27 and 30-27.

Sprott had more left in the tank, and outworked a battered Gavern, who had two tough fights leading into the tournament final. Sprott, who previously won the 14th edition of Prizefighter, received his trophy and tournament check from former heavyweight champion Larry Holmes.

The Semi-Finals

Brian Minto (38-7, 24KOs) tried hard but he was unable to overcome the better quality of punches from Michael Sprott (39-21, 17KOs), who won a three round unanimous decision. Minto had Sprott rocked at one point, but he was unable to follow-up further and put him away. All three judges saw it 29-28.

In the first semi-final bout - James "Lights Out" Toney (76-9-3, 46KOs) was unable to keep his run going, as he dropped a three round decision to Jason Gavern (24-15-4, 11KOs). Toney outboxed Gavern in the first, but it was Gavern who came on strong in the final minute of the second. They are trading punches in the third, with each boxer looking to pull out the win. Both boxer were landing some good punches in the third and they appeared to be very tired. Gavern rallied in the final minute. The scores were 29-28, 29-28 and 29-28.

The Quarterfinals

The more experienced Brian Minto (38-6, 24KOs) outworked Tom Little (3-2) for a three round split decision. Minto edged rounds one and three, but Little made it close in the second. The scores were 29-28 for Little, and two scores of 29-28 for Minto.

Popular Brit Michael Sprott (38-21, 17KOs) won a three round unanimous decision over Damian Wills (31-4-1, 24KOs). Wills started well in the first round, likely winning it, but Sprott outworked and outboxed him in the final two rounds to clinch it. The scores were 30-28, 29-28 and 29-28.

Former three division world champion, 45-year-old James "Lights Out" Toney (76-8-3, 46KOs) stopped very inexperienced Matt Legg (6-2, 2KOs) in the third round. Toney outboxed Legg in the first, but seemed to take his foot off the gas in the second. Toney came out with a fury in third, rocking Legg with several punches to get him in trouble and the referee jumped in to stop the fight.

In the first bout of the quarterfinals, Jason Gavern (23-15-4, 11KOs) dropped Larry Olubamiwo (10-4, 9KOs) early in the first minute of the first round and then moved forward to win a three round unanimous decision to move forward in the tournament. The judges saw it 29-28, 29-28, 29-27. After suffering the early knockdown, Olubamiwo had a tough time working his way back into the fight with an active Gavern working hard.
