CORONA, Calif. — Michael Dutchover had an easy day at the office Friday — or in the case — at the warehouse.

Dutchover landed a punishing left hook to put last-minute replacement Rosekie Cristobal in all fours. The Filipino fighter held his ribs, but he was unable to get up.

Dutchover recorded a first-round knockout in the second bout of a ShoBox tripleheader at Omega Products Events Center, which is located behind a warehouse.

Before connecting on the finishing left hook, Dutchover landed a straight right hand. The referee stopped the junior welterweight fight at the 1:46 mark. Dutchover was initially scheduled to fight Ramon Mascarena from Chile.

In his previous fight, Dutchover had an impressive third-round knockout over the experienced Ruben Tamayo, who had been in the ring with high-level fighters such as Oscar Valdez, Joseph Diaz and Jesus Cuellar. Earlier in the day, Tamayo was knocked out by Petr Petrov to open the card.

The 21-year-old Dutchover has yet to face top fighters, but he has spared with Valdez, Jessie Magdaleno and Darleys Perez.

“Ever since I've been here in Southern California, it's really elevated my game,” said Dutchover, who left Texas to train in California. “I've been doing most of my sparring at Legendz Boxing Gym in Norwalk. It's about five minutes away from where I live. There's plenty of fighters there.”

Before turning pro in 2016, Dutchover had a productive amateur career. The fighter known as the “West Texas Warrior” was a silver medalist in the 2016 National Golden Gloves Championships at 132 pounds.

Dutchover fought five fights in 2017 and 2018. This was his first bout of 2019. Friday’s victory was Dutchover’s fifth consecutive knockout, with all ending before the fifth round. Dutchover, who improved to 13-0 with 10 knockouts, hasn’t had a fight go longer than six rounds.
