Former world champions Edgar Sosa and Humberto "Chiquita" Gonzalez both agreed that Saul "Canelo" Alvarez will have a slight advantage in his fight against countryman Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on May 6 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The contest will take place at a catch-weight of 164.5-pounds.

Chavez Jr. has fought as a high as 172-pounds. In December, he made the super middleweight limit of 168-pounds for the first time since 2014. Canelo captured the junior middleweight of the World Boxing Organization in September with a knockout of unbeaten Liam smith.

Chavez Jr. is now being trained by Hall of Fame coach Ignacio "Nacho" Beristain, and using strength and conditioning coach Angel "Memo" Heredia.

Both Gonzalez and Sosa were at one point trained by Beristain. They view Chavez's overall camp, with Nacho, as the big wildcard in how the contest is going to play out.

"They will give a good spectacle and for that they must prepare one hundred percent. I think Saúl has a slight edge with having more activity in recent months, although Julio was very strong in his last fight. I do not rule out a knockout ending, although I'm not sure who will be the winner," Gonzalez said.

"[Nacho] trained me for some time in my professional time and I can say that he is a great coach, although very demanding. I think for Julio this is the best option in a fundamental fight in his career. Apparently they have already agreed on how they are going to prepare and I think the pair can be a success.

Sosa gives Chavez a shot to win, if the bigger man uses his physical advantages in the proper manner.

"I really hope Chavez will get along in a good way with Beristain, because that's the way he will be able to win. If he puts into practice everything he learned during the next few weeks he would come away with the clear advantage of using his reach and punching. Julio must come forward as that is his style and he should not try to change his style around to imitate his father. He must punch with a lot of power to the body of Canelo," Sosa said.
