Meshech Speare will return to the ring next month.

The 23-year-old hasn’t fought since last May but has been in the gym and raring to go.

Speare is 5-0 with three quick finishes and, after leaving the Everton Red Triangle gym, is now working under the tutelage of George Vaughan and Derry Mathews.

He was scheduled to appear on a show co-promoted by Everton Red Triangle’s Paul Stevenson, along with Pat Barrett of Black Flash Promotions, on February 28.

The show will take place at Grand Central Hall in Liverpool and is being billed ‘Undefeated’. It is set to feature some of Liverpool’s biggest talents, including lightweight Nick Ball, who moved into double figures last year after a stellar four-fight campaign in which only one of the fights went the distance.

But Speare’s first appearance in nine months, which was set to be the first of five fights that he will have this year, has already been chalked off, with the undefeated fighter teasing that there is news on his return coming sooner rather than later.

And that news is that he will be back between the ropes on March 28 at the Knowsley Leisure and Culture Park in Huyton, Liverpool, as part of a card promoted by Steve Wood for VIP Boxing.

The bill, named ‘Mersey Uprising III’, will be brought in association with David Nelson for Trinity Entertainment Boxing and will feature former Commonwealth lightweight champion Sean Dodd, who heads into the fight on the back of a pair of wins, and undefeated cruiserweight Shawn Hughes.

Hughes (2-0) will be joined by Lee Whelan, Jake Barton and Joe Kavanagh, while there will also be action for Desire Adami.
