Argenis Mendez lined up one rematch by winning another. A future title shot rematch with Juan Carlos Salgado is in Mendez' future after beating Martin Honorio for the second time in as many tries Saturday evening at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

Scores were 117-109, 116-110 and 115-111 in their Telefutura-televised main event.

Mendez sprinted out to an early lead against Honorio, a change of pace for the normally slow-starting Dominican. Throwing caution to wind worked out well for Mendez, though also left himself open for an array of fouls from Honorio, who was docked points in rounds nine and eleven.

The win is the second straight for Mendez (20-2, 10KO), who eyes a return go with Salgado sometime in the early fall. Honorio falls to 32-8-1 (16KO), having now lost two straight including his own failed title bid against Salgado earlier this year.

Mendez defeated Honorio by majority decision in May '10 to set up a first fight with Salgado, which was fought for a vacant title last September.

Ed Paredes continues to inch towards welterweight contention with a 10th round stoppage of badly faded former 140 lb. titlist Vivian Harris. Paredes (31-3-1, 21KO) overcame early toe-to-toe action to take over midway through. Harris (29-8-2, 19KO) was floored in the 10th and final round. He appeared willing to fight back but was rescued by his corner at 2:31 of round ten.

Harris has won just once in his past eight bouts, suffering five knockout losses and a headbutt-induced concussion over that stretch.

Former 122 lb and 130 lb. titlist Joan Guzman continues to attempt to pick up the pieces of his once-promising career. The unbeaten Dominican wins his third straight since returning to the ring last year, scoring a 1st round knockout of Jorge Pimentel (25-16, 19KO).

All of Guzman's wins during this comeback tour have all come inside the distance. The modest competition is taken well into consideration, although the 36-year old has shown improved conditioning and discipline both in and out of the ring.
