Yordenis Ugas versus Mario Barrios is one of several intriguing fights on the Canelo Alvarez-Jermell Charlo undercard. The two former champions will square off in a welterweight showdown with the WBC interim title on the line.

The Showtime distributed Premier Boxing Champions’ pay-per-view event takes place at the T-Mobile Arena on the Las Vegas strip.

The 37-year-old Ugas has been training under the watchful eyes of longtime trainer Ismael Salas and strength and conditioning coach Angel “Memo” Heredia.

According to Heredia, this has been one of Ugas’ better training camps.

“We have had a good camp. He is very excited. He seems very content and he said sparring is going good,” said Heredia.

“Conditioning wise he has gotten stronger so now it is up to him and his corner to put it together on September 30th.   Ugas is very motivated because he knows he hasn’t fought since the Spence fight. He knows what is at stake. He knows he has to shine to get another big fight versus someone like (Keith) Thurman or (Terence) Crawford.”

The pinnacle of Ugas’ career took place in 2021 when he scored a major upset victory over Manny Pacquiao, that led to the future Hall of Famer’s retirement.

Heredia said that the Cuban will leave it all in the ring against Barrios as he looks to get back to the top of the welterweight division.

“You will see an Ugas who is very motivated. I am very proud of him and the work that he has put in. Everyone knows Ugas always comes to fight and he will continue to add to his legacy when he enters the ring,” Heredia told BoxingScene.com.
