Puerto Rican flyweight contender McWilliams Arroyo is prepared for a very tough outing when he challenges WBC flyweight champion Julio Cesar Martinez.

The fight will take place at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida, on February 27.

Initially they were scheduled to collide last year, with the contest being pushed back after Martinez (17-1, 13 KOs) withdrew with a health issue.

“Nothing is certain until the bell rings . I can't be very serious all the time. I hope he and the people on his team, as well as mine, stay healthy for this fight. It is the second time they give us a date and it will finally take place," Arroyo told Carlos Gonzalez.

“It will be another classic with Mexico going against Puerto Rico, because of our styles. It will be a good fight that the public will enjoy.”

Martinez and Arroyo had agreed to fight in August 2020.

However, the fight was canceled when it was reported that Martinez suffered a throat infection. The champion had a stay-busy fight in October.

Arroyo (20-4), meanwhile, has been out of the ring since December 2019 when he stopped Juan Gabriel Medina in five rounds.

“As the coronavirus [pandemic] became involved, I am used to waiting. I kept training and did not let myself be frustrated. I knew the fight was going to eventually happen. They informed us several weeks ago, so I will have eight weeks of training," Arroyo concluded.

For Arroyo, the fight will potentially be his last opportunity at a world title - after losing title fights in the past against Roman Gonzalez, Kazuto Ioka and Amnat Ruenroeng.

The February event will be spearheaded by Mexican superstar Saul “Canelo” Alvarez - who makes a mandatory defense of his title against WBC and WBA super middleweight titles against mandatory challenger Avni Yildirim.
