UFC superstar Conor McGregor was ringside in Saudi Arabia, to watch WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury get off the floor to win a ten round split decision win over MMA veteran Francis Ngannou.

In a shocking turn of events, Ngannou dropped Fury with a left hand counter in the third round. As the fight played out, the bout was very competitive - which stunned most observers.

Fury had issues with Ngannou's style and likely underestimated the physical strength of his opponent.

Ngannou was a tremendous underdog and very few expected him to last the full ten round distance.

Two of the judges sided with Fury, with scores of 95-94 and 96-93, while the third tallied the bout for Ngannou with a score of 95-94.

Fury was unable to utilize his physical advantages on a fighter as big as Ngannou, who prevented the 'Gypsy King' from holding and leaning on him. Ngannou was the physically stronger man in the contest and his reach was nearly identical to Fury,

“Lovely shot [that dropped Fury], it caught him in the back of the head,” McGregor said. “More off balance as well, but fair play to Tyson. He is a tough man as well. Stong chin. And Jesus, Ngannou’s a powerful boy as well. Tyson couldn’t hold him. Tyson could not hold him. He kept; he was just missing with that back hand. Great fight. Great to watch. Heavyweight boxing is exciting.

“Especially from the ringside. That’s the two guys I’ve seen now ringside. I saw Anthony Joshua in his performance against the Finnish guy [Robert Helenius], and now I saw Fury. Oh, that’s some great fights in the boxing heavyweight division. It’s on fire at the minute.”
