Former world champion Ricardo Mayorga is back in the spotlight. Last seen in March, Mayorga was knocked out in the twelfth round by WBA 154-pound champion Miguel Cotto. For the last few days, Mayorga has been mentioned as a possible opponent for WBC champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez on September 17 in Mexico.

But, in statements given to the local press in Managua, Nicaragua, Mayorga had little to say about a fight with Alvarez and started campaigning for a shot at the WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. He wants his promoter Don King to contact Top Rank to begin immediate negotiations.

"I want to fight with Chávez Jr. because is seems to me that there isn't a lot of danger there. I think that at most it would take me three rounds to stop him. Chavez is slow and can't hit," Mayorga said.
