It wouldn't be a Ricardo Mayorga press conference if there wasn't a lot of controversy.

Mayorga was once again in rare form with his insults and nearly got into a brawl with his scheduled opponent for Saturday night, after he slapped Mexican fighter Jaudiel Zepeda in the face when they came together to pose for the local photographers and television cameras in Managua - during their final press conference.

The slap generated a minor scuffle that was broken up when security guards stepped in to prevent any further violence.

Mayorga not only insulted Zepeda, he constantly compared the Mexican fighter to female prostitutes and even to cancer-stricken women.

After a strong call of attention by Rosendo Alvarez and Ruth Rodríguez of Bufalo Boxing Promotions, the promotional company who are backing Saturday night's card in Managua, Mayorga apologized to the fans for his words.

Undoubtedly, a lot of people were offended by the 44-year-old former welter and super welter world champion, who had no control over his words. Mayorga wanted to show off, as he did in his world title bouts when promoted he was by Don King, but it did nothing more than leave a bad impression.

"I was not expecting this to happen, although I already know him. I know howMayorga is, but there is no problem,"Zepeda said. "That's very disrespectful things that Mayorga says. We have come to fight, and I will not fall into his mind games. If he wants us to bet some money, we will do it, but not his entire purse. I do not want to leave him in the street."

"He's like a little girl, I'm going to teach her how to really hit. "Mayorga. "I'm a man going up against a woman. But this Mexican, I'm going to hit him very hard."
