An official press conference was held at the Holiday Inn in Managua, for the scheduled Mixed Martial Arts encounter between former champion Ricardo "El Matador" Mayorga and undefeated Rene "Level" Martinez (4-0), and the fight is taking place on July 27th in Managua, Nicaragua.

Martinez did not attend the press conference and participated by way of a video monitor via Skype. Mayorga exploded when he saw Martinez appear on the video monitor.

"After I'm done with you, I'm going to send you back to Cuba with a cane. You are a bum and won't last beyond the first round. When you come to Nicaragua, just save yourself the trouble of getting hurt and just give me your purse. Just come to the stage and hand it over to me, because if I get my hands on you, you won't have any money left from [medical bills]. You are a gross looking Cuban and I will thank you for giving me all this money," Mayorga said.

Martinez did fire back.

"He is nothing more than a fat comedian, but on the day of the fight he's going to find out what a true fighter really is," Martinez said.

On May 4th in Managua, Mayorga made his debut in Mixed Martial Arts against Wesley Tiffer and won by TKO in the second round. But there were several issues after the match was over. For starters, Mayorga weighed in 20-pounds over the contracted limit of 165-pounds. Then during the fight Mayorga launched an illegal knee to the back of Tiffer, which made the fighter scream out in pain. At that point Tiffer was unable to continue and Mayorga was declared the TKO winner.

The Mixed Martial Arts Commission held a press conference in Managua on May 11, and chairman Ardeshir Zack Asagary announced that Mayorga's victory had been changed to a no-contest. The boxer was also suspended for three months.

Due to some legal manuevering by Carlos Mario Peña, Mayorga's attorney, he was able to void out the existing suspension [something having to do with a violation of the labor code of Nicaragua].
