Corona, California - Mauricio Herrera is known as El Maestro (Spanish for the teacher). He sure "schooled" Ji-Hoon Kim throughout their scheduled 10 round bout. Herrera won a one-sided, yet action-filled 10 round unanimous decision over Kim before about 2,000 at the Omega Products International in Corona, CA.

The bout headlined a seven bout card, presented by Thompson Boxing Promotions and Banner Promotions.

In what was anticipated as an even fight turned into a one-sided beatdown for Herrera.

Working behind a jab, Herrera timed Kim as he came forward, landing counter right hands to the head.

During the middle rounds, Herrera would make Kim miss and countered with hard lefts and rights to the head.

Herrera was right on the money with short and more accurate punches as Kim tried to land one big right hand as he pressed the action.

Kim was able to score in the final two rounds, pinning Herrera against the ropes. He threw and landed more punches as Herrera worked off the ropes. Despite a cut he suffered below his left eye in the eighth round, Herrera put enough rounds in the bank from earlier in the fight to win by decision.

All three judges scored the bout in favor of Herrera, 99-91, 99-91, and 98-92. Boxingscene.com scored the bout 99-91 for Herrera.

Herrera, from nearby Riverside, improves to 19-3, 7 KOs. Kim, from Seoul, South Korea, drops to 24-9, 18 KOs.

Super welterweight and 2012 Bronze Medalist Taras Shelestyuk stopped Brandon Adams in the fourth and final round. The southpaw Adams, who was making his

professional debut, dropped Shelestyuk with a left-right combination to the head. However, the Ukrainian-born Shelestyuk (2-0, 2 KOs) hurt Adams at the end of the third. Shelestyuk went in for the kill in the fourth round. A Shelestyuk combination stunned Adams, promoting referee Dr. Lou Moret to step in and stop the bout at 48 second.

Super welterweight Joshua Conley (6-0, 4 KOs) stopped Eric Prado in the fourth and final round. Conley dropped Prado (2-3-1) with a counter right hand to the head. Prado stood up on wobbly legs prompting referee Dr. Lou Moret to stop the bout at 48 seconds.

In the walkout bout of the evening, welterweight Hector Serrano (16-3, 6 KOs) won a close six round unanimous decision over Michael Peralta (4-7, 1 KO). All three judges scored the bout in favor of Serrano, 58-56, 58-56, and 59-55.

Lightweight Miguel Gonzalez won a action-filled 10 round unanimous decision over former world title holder Miguel Acosta. Gonzalez was able to land left hands behind a stiff jab to the head of Acosta. Acosta dropped Gonzalez with a right uppercut to the head towards the end of the second round. Not to be outdone, Gonzalez dropped Acosta with a left cross to the head near the end of the fifth round.

Acosta would dig to the body and also landed straight or counter right crosses

to the head of Gonzalez in the sixth and seventh rounds. However, Gonzalez began to stick an move, avoiding Acosta wild, but dangerous  punches. He would also land counter left crosses over a tiring Acosta in the 12th round. 

It would prove effective as he was able to secure the unanimous decision with scores of 97-91, 96-92, and 95-93. Gonzalez, from Cleveland, OH, improves to 21-3, 15 KOs. Acosta, from Caracas, Venezuela, drops to 29-7-2, 23 KOs

Featherweight Richard Contreras stopped Jose Iniguez in the second round of a scheduled six round bout. Contreras stalked Iniguez (6-15, 1 KO) around the ring in the first round, loading up on left hooks to the body and head. In the second round, Contreras (10-1-1, 9 KOs) dropped Iniguez to one knee with a double left hook to the head and body. Iniguez got up and fought back, but dropped to one knee courtesy of a Contreras left hook to the body. Referee Dr. Lou Moret immediately waved the fight over at 57 seconds.

In a battle of unbeaten bantamweights, Fernando Fuentes won a hard-fought four round majority decision over Christian Lorenzo (2-1, 1 KO). Both fighters had their moments in the fight, but Fuentes (2-0-1) was able to land the more telling blows early in the fight. One judge scored the bout 38-38, while the other two judges scored the bout 40-36 and 39-37 for Fuentes.
