MATTY ASKIN is in a rush to challenge new British cruiserweight champion Leon Williams.

The unbeaten Blackpool star has hammered Williams verbally after watching his rival take the title from Robert Norton last month.

Askin, 22, will send a message to Britain’s cruiser bruisers when he boxes a non-title ten rounder against Czech star Roman Kracic at Oldham Sport Centre on Saturday November 12.

Matty who stands 6ft 4in tall and won all 11 professional fights promised: “I will beat Williams inside the distance if he dare face me.

“The Norton fight was a shocker, but Williams still didn’t do enough to win. I thought he was pathetic.”

Askin makes the three hour round trip daily from his hometown to Hatton Health and Fitness in Hyde when he trains under Bob Shannon.

Hatton Promotions chief Ricky Hatton regularly watches his sessions and added: “The cruiserweight division is wide open at domestic, European and world level.

“In time, Matty will reach the highest level but I certainly envisage a British title fight next year.

“There are a lot of fighters who will fancy their chances against Leon, and Matty should certainly be considered in any eliminators that are arranged.”

Kracic has won 33 of his 41 contests.

Denton Vassell tops the Oldham bill that is being televised live by Sky Sports when he makes the second defence of his Commonwealth welterweight crown against Cameroon born Australian Samuel Colomban.

The bill will also include former Kieran Farrell, Jazza Dickens, Dezzie Higginson, Adam Little and Kieran Maher.
