Family Arena, St. Charles, MO. - On Saturday night, Devon Alexander (22-1, 13KOs) won a close ten round split decision over Lucas Matthysse (28-2, 26KOs) of Argentina. The scores were 96-93 for Alexander, 96-93 for Matthysse, and 95-94 for Alexander. There were many observers, including the HBO broadcasters, who scored the fight for Matthysse.

The big puncher from Argentina spoke with BoxingScene.com in the aftermath, and with the assistance of translator Cecilio Martinez, Matthysse discussed various aspects of his fight with Alexander.

BoxingScene.com: What are your thoughts on the fight?

Lucas Matthysse: I was robbed again. And I was the more superrior fighter tonight, you know? I had great preparation and I won.

BoxingScene.com: Were there any concerns about the judging or the referee tonight or how you were treated in the ring?

LM: The referee did  a great job. There was a lot of holding going on, but I believe that the judges were watching a different fight.

BoxingScene.com: Was there a particular card, like, perhaps the 96-93 card that bothered you the most?

LM: Just the entire decision and how they went about it bothered me. I'm just very upset right now. This is something that it's going to take a while for me to process it. I just know that I got robbed again. This was not a good night for boxing. Once again, boxing got hurt again. This is a big black eye. This is not the sort of decision that reflects well in boxing today.

BoxingScene.com: Do you not think that you got enough credit for anything in particular, such as your body shots?

LM: You know what, I definitely worked the body and hurt him to the body. I hurt him in the fight. Look at his face and look at my face. That right there shows a lot.

BoxingScene.com: What does Devon Alexander do well?

LM: You know, he's a very slick fighter. He was slick. He's a good fighter, but not a great fighter. I was just a couple of inches short of knocking him out.

BoxingScene.com: Are there any points in the fight that you would like to have back, like, a point where maybe you should have pressed your advantage more?

LM: No, you know, he's very slick, and he is smart. He did what he had to do to get the hell out of there when he was hurt. I did what I had to do, and that's just the way that it goes, man.

BoxingScene.com: When you said that you were training to knock out Devon Alexander, that there was a chance that in your mind that you would not be favored in a decision?

LM: Absolutely. 110 percent. That was something that I definitely had in mind, and my whole team knew that and felt that way.

BoxingScene.com: How does Devon Alexander compare to Zab Judah?

LM: Zab Judah is 10 times a better fighter than Devon Alexander.
