Former European cruiserweight champion and interim WBA title challenger Mateusz Masternak (43-5, 29 KOs) continued his latest career revival with the second win in a COVID-19-plagued year.

Masternak stopped Argentinean Jose Gregorio Ulrich (17-4, 6 KOs) in seven rounds of the fight, which headlined Andrzej Wasilewski’s night of boxing in L?dz, Poland, on Friday, December 4.

Masternak promptly caught Ulrich’s attention with a left hook to the chin / left hook to the liver combo in the opening session. The Pole, 33, continued to work off his opponent’s body in subsequent rounds, making him breathe hard and rapidly lose his stamina.

In the fourth, Masternak struggled at first but then landed a right uppercut to trouble Ulrich and repeated this trick twice more. The Polish fighter rocked Ulrich with a right cross at the end of the fifth and landed more left hooks in the sixth stanza. Finally, in the seventh Masternak continued bombing up until a moment Ulrich was forced to retire in his corner.

WBC #12 Masternak is expected to move up in ranks following his second 2020 win. The penultimate one was a unanimous decision over Taylor Mabika in September.
