The December 17 card headlined by an intriguing lightweight bout between Frank Martin and Michel Rivera has a new destination.

BoxingScene.com has learned that Premier Boxing Champions’ final show of 2022 will now take place at The Chelsea, a cozy venue inside The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. The Armory in Minneapolis initially was reserved as the site for a card that’ll include three fights Showtime will televise.

Showtime most recently aired a PBC show from The Cosmopolitan on February 26, when Dominican southpaw Hector Luis Garcia (16-0, 10 KOs) upset heavily favored, previously unbeaten Brooklyn native Chris Colbert (16-1, 6 KOs) by unanimous decision in a 12-round, 130-pound WBA elimination match.

Minneapolis’ Armory has become a favorite venue of Al Haymon’s PBC in recent years. Showtime has televised three PBC cards from that arena this year, most recently on November 5.

Cuban southpaw David Morrell Jr. (8-0, 7 KOs), who resides in Minneapolis when he isn’t training in Houston, defeated Kazakhstan’s Aidos Yerbossynuly (16-1, 11 KOs) by 12th-round knockout in the main event November 5. Yerbossynuly, 30, suffered brain trauma during a brutal bout in which he absorbed a lot of punishment and remains hospitalized at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.

Whoever wins the 12-round WBA elimination bout between the Dominican Republic’s Rivera (24-0, 14 KOs) and Indianapolis’ Martin (16-0, 12 KOs) will advance one step closer to a title shot in the 135-pound division.

The 24-year-old Rivera, who resides and trains in Miami, is ranked second by the WBA, sixth by the IBF, 10th by the WBO and 12th by the WBC. The 27-year-old Martin, a Detroit native who is promoted by Errol Spence Jr.’s company, is ranked 10th by the WBA, but not in the top 15 by the IBF, WBC or WBO.

The first two fights Showtime will televise December 17 haven’t been announced.
