English super middleweight champion, Mark Jeffers, is determined that next weekend's title defense against Germaine Brown in Liverpool acts as a springboard to bigger and better things.

Jeffers’ gym mate, Jack Cullen, holds the British super middleweight title but after waiting years for his moment, Jeffers has no intention of treading water and waiting for an opportunity to fight for the famous Lonsdale belt to present itself.

Jeffers (16-0, 4 KO’s) burst on to the North West scene seven years ago but has had to remain patient. His success last year allowed him to stop working and focus fully on his boxing career but the 25-year-old certainly isn’t going to start resting on his laurels now.

After stepping in on a couple of weeks' notice to beat Zak Chelli for the English title last July, Jeffers revealed that he accepted another dangerous short notice assignment late last year but that the people behind unbeaten European champion, Kevin Lele Sadjo, decided against fighting him. Should he beat Brown, Jeffers is determined to push on and has targeted the heavy-handed Frenchman as the perfect next step.

“Germaine Brown’s my main focus at the minute but if we get past Germaine Brown, the European title is there as well,” Jeffers told VIP Boxing. “I got offered that on a week’s notice last year which probably a lot of people don’t know about. I accepted that in Marseille. That was a weeks' notice but I don’t really care. I’ll fight anyone at any time. I live a good life now, so I felt I was ready to take it. They ended up turning that fight down and they picked an Argentinean kid [Sadjo beat Abraham Buonarrigo in 4 rounds in December].

“I’ve just gotta keep going and going. I can never be content with what I’ve got at the minute. I need to go again. Straight after this fight, what's next? I can’t celebrate. There’s bigger things to win now.”
