Experienced former division world champion Abner Mares is planning to steal the show on June 25th, when he returns to the ring to face Jesus Cuellar for the featherweight championship of the World Boxing Association.

The fight takes place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York - with Keith Thurman defending his WBA welterweight title against Shawn Porter in the televised main event.

Mares (29-2-1, 15 KO) is in full swing with his ongoing training camp with Robert Garcia, who a year ago was the head trainer of Cuellar (28-1, 21 KO).

Mares gives Cuellar the edge in punching power, but reminds everyone who he was tabbed to get knocked out in his featherweight debut against Daniel Ponce De Leon - but switched things around on the critics by knocking out Ponce De Leon.

"In this case my experience and technique are what will give me the victory. I think he has slight edge in punch power, but when I made my debut at featherweight - they said Daniel Ponce de Leon was going to knock me out and it was the opposite, I knocked him out, so do not rule out the possibility of that happening that night," Mares said to ESPN Deportes.

"I think he has not fought anyone like me. I know I have to be well prepared to make a good impression and leave no doubt my victory. I'm going with the mentality of stealing the show, and of course there is that possibility because of our styles. One has to take it into account, that this event is in New York where it is not easy for a Mexican and Argentine to fight, so we have something to prove."

"This victory is going to take me to the big fights, the fights I want, a fight with Leo Santa Cruz would be exceptional. It was a good fight the first time and a second, with Robert Garcia in the corner, it will be much better."
