The always very well informed Bild Zeitung reveals that Marco Huck, reigning IBO cruiserweight world champion with a record of 40-3-1, will take on Latvian fighter Mairis Briedis on April 1 in Dortmund with the vacant WBC cruiserweight title at stake.

The WBC champion is still listed by the sanctioning body as Tony Bellew, and he owes a mandatory defense against Brieidis, but instead accepted a fight at heavyweight against David Haye on March 4th at the O2 Arena in London.

The WBC approved his request to fight Haye and sanctioned Huck vs. Brieidis for the vacant WBC "interim" title. There is no official word from the WBC on whether or not Huck-Brieidis is still for the interim title or the vacant full title.

Briedis has risen through the ranks with his many appearances at the Bigger is Better shows (results that are not included in his boxrec record) and scored some significant wins of lately and is 29-1.

Huck is 32 years old just like Brieidis, but has a long and tough career behind him with fights against a much higher level of opposition.

Super middleweight contender Daniel Heinze (6-0) headlines the first Danish Fight Night of the year on February 11 at the Frederiksberghall in Copenhagen in a ten rounder against an opponent to be announced. Heinze is trained by former EBU and IBC super lightweight and welterweight champ Thomas Damgaard.

Light heavyweight prospect Jeppe Morell (6-0) appears in an eight-rounder also against the always feared TBA.

Heavyweight Pierre Madsen (5-0), light heavy Jonas Madsen (7-0), super welter Mohammed Adel (4-0), super bantam Ali Mohamed (4-0), cruiser Detlev Rossing (2-0), super lightweight Enock Poulsen (2-0) and female debutant Sarah Mahfoud make up the rest of the bill. Opponents for all are to be announced.
