Marcel Braithwaite will return from his second career defeat next month.

The English super-flyweight champion challenged for the vacant British belt at the back end of last year.

Braithwaite, from Liverpool, took on Sheffield-based Croydon talent Sunny Edwards and even knocked the Frank Warren-promoted fighter down in the seventh round.

But ‘The Chosen One’ was on the wrong end of 117-110 cards twice, plus a tally of 118-109, at the Copper Box Arena in London, exclusively live on BT Sport.

Braithwaite has shown, with his trainer Wayne Smith, that his hunger for the sport of boxing is back and he has said that he is now ready to take the sport seriously.

And that quest will begin on March 14 at the Eventim Olympia in Liverpool, exclusively live on VIP Boxing TV.

He has been confirmed as an addition to a card that is being promoted by Steve Wood and topped by the vacant Central Area cruiserweight title clash between Jay Farrell and Damian Chambers.

Dexter Makaza, who is training at the famous Salisbury ABC gym in Liverpool, will make his professional debut on the card and will be joined by gym-mates Mathew Rennie and Nathan Quarless, the latter of whom moved to 6-0 at the back end of last year with a four-round victory over Andrius Ruzas.

Nathan Bennett, who has recently moved back to his old amateur gym, will have a warm-up fight before vying for a belt later in the year and there is action for Matty Fagan, Marcos Molloy and Tom Aitchison.

Both Molloy and Aitchison were last in action back in November at the M&S Bank Arena in their home city where they got wins on the undercard of Callum Smith’s WBA Super, WBC Diamond and Ring Magazine world super-middleweight title defence against John Ryder, exclusively live on Sky Sports and DAZN, while Fagan boxed in October as he outpointed Lee Hallett at the Ellesmere Port Sports Village and he will be joined by Sean Turner, the heavyweight who was last in action in November.
