At the WinnaVegas Casino and Resort in Sloan, Iowa, Manuel "Manos" Perez captured the vacant GBU Continental Lightweight title. Winning the 8 round unanimous decision advanced Perez to the 24th win of his career.

Robles (18-15, 8KO's) was a tough opponent, having faced a lot of the same names that Perez has faced in his career. Robles took some hard hooks to the chin and body, which most know is Manos' forte.

In the beginning rounds, Perez established a good jab with a strong right hand to follow, that seemed to knock back Robles every time. Unwilling to exchange with Perez, Robles walked around the ring and Perez had to often follow, cut off, and send Robles back to the ropes. When Robles realized Perez was on the attack, he would hook elbows in with Perez and push on Perez with his head. The referee was very involved with Saturday's fight as he often had to separate and warn both fighters to stop holding and watch their heads. "I didn't want to fight in such a dirty style, that's not how I fight, but for a while there he didn't want to exchange with me, and I could tell the crowd was disappointed", says Perez.

The rest of the fight was in a phone booth as Perez tried his best to keep Robles in front of him, and not let him get on the run. The crowd was more entertained as they could see Robles' head get picked up from uppercuts, and sweat flying from both men as they exchanged short shots.

At the end of the fight the crowd was on their feet as they could see Perez pushing for the knock out and Robles' made sure he was not going down. The score cards were read in front of a pleased crowd and a smile was on the face of legendary Sugar Ray Leonard who was sitting ringside.

Perez looks to keep his winning streak going at his natural weight class of 135lbs. "I told myself I'm not fighting at 147 anymore. I'm going to go the rest of my career doing this right." That seems to be working for new GBU Continental champ.
