Earlier this week Golden Boy Promotions announced that two of their unbeaten prospects would face each other on the Canelo Alvarez-Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. pay-per-view undercard.  NABF featherweight champion Joseph "JoJo" Diaz (23-0) will battle Manuel "Tino" Avila (22-0) in a bout scheduled for 10 rounds.

The other fights that have been announced for the card distributed by HBO PPV are David Lemieux-Marcos Reyes and the return of Lucas Matthysse against Emmanuel Taylor.

Avila said that when he was offered the Diaz fight he immediately accepted the challenge.

"My dad is my manager and he walked in the gym and said, 'hey you can either fight on May 5th or 6th. It is JoJo Diaz for pay-per-view,' and I said I want JoJo Diaz and I didn't even ask about who the other opponent was or how much money I would make. I didn't care. I just want JoJo Diaz," Avila said with a chuckle.

The Fairfield, Calif. resident has a lot of respect for Diaz but he is very confident in his own abilities.  He believes that they are both each other's toughest opponent to date.

"He is a good fighter. He is probably going to be the best fighter that I have fought so it will be a step up for both me and him. He's a really good fighter and he is left handed," said Avila who vows to leave the ring with Diaz's NABF belt.

"It will be a big step for me. Coming out with the belt I think it will set me up for one more fight then fighting for the WBC belt."

The WBC title is held by Gary Russell Jr. who is likely to return in May against his mandatory challenge Oscar Escandon after their scheduled April date was pushed back because of an injury suffered by Escandon.

The 24-year-old Avila vows to leave it all on the line May 6th and says that Canelo and Chavez won't be the only fighters with Mexican pride in the ring that night.

"They are going to see the Mexican pride come out of me and it will probably be a toe-to-toe fight, Avila told BoxingScene.com.
