LAS VEGAS – Yordenis Ugas towered over Manny Pacquiao the afternoon before the biggest fight of Ugas’ career.

The 5-feet-9 Ugas stands nearly four inches taller than Pacquiao, who has fared well against significantly bigger opponents throughout his career. The 42-year-old Pacquiao is still listed as more than a 3-1 favorite to beat Ugas in their FOX Sports Pay-Per-View main event Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena.

The Philippines’ Pacquiao and the Cuban-born Ugas both made weight without issue Friday afternoon at MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Pacquiao stepped on the Nevada State Athletic Commission’s scale at 146 pounds. Ugas came in exactly at the welterweight limit of 147 pounds.

They’ll fight for the WBA “super” welterweight title that was stripped from Pacquiao late in January due to inactivity. The WBA simultaneously promoted Ugas from “world” champion to “super” champ.

Pacquiao and Ugas weren’t supposed to fight Saturday night, but Ugas replaced Errol Spence Jr. on short notice once an extensive eye exam administered August 9 detected damage to Spence’s right retina. Spence (27-0, 21 KOs), the IBF/WBC welterweight champ, underwent surgery August 11 in Dallas.

Ugas was scheduled to defend his title against Argentina’s Fabian Maidana on the Pacquiao-Spence undercard. Maidana (18-1, 13 KOs) suffered a cut in sparring that would’ve prevented him from boxing Ugas, who happily stepped in for Spence on less than two weeks’ notice.

Pacquiao will fight for the first time since he edged Keith Thurman (29-1, 22 KOs, 1 NC) by split decision to win the WBA “super” 147-pound crown in July 2019 at MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Ugas hasn’t fought in nearly a year, either. He won the then-vacant WBA “world” welterweight title when he beat Abel Ramos by split decision last September 6 at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

The official weights for the three pay-per-view fights on the Pacquiao-Ugas undercard are listed below.
