Manny Flores punched his way back into the win column.

Just three months after he suffered his lone career defeat, the 24-year-old southpaw bounced back with a second-round knockout of Nicaragua’s Jerson Ortiz. Three knockdowns paved the way for a referee stoppage at 0:50 of round two in their DAZN-aired co-feature Thursday evening at Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California.

Flores—who hails from nearby Coachella—didn’t waste any time to establish his dominance. He allowed Ortiz (17-8, 8KOs) to come to him and set him up with right hooks which produced a pair of opening round knockdowns. Ortiz barely made it out of the round but was pummeled early in round two and once again sent to the canvas which ended the one-sided contest.

The win sent Flores’ record to 16-1 (12KOs). It came on a night when his younger cousin and training stable mate Grant Flores (3-0, 2KOs) earned a six-round, unanimous decision of Tampa’s Jaleik Bogle (4-2-2, 2KOs). The 18-year-old Flores dropped Bogle in round five but had to settle for a shutout victory as he won by scores 60-53 on all three judges’ cards.

On the undercard, Daniel Luna (3-0, 3KOs) enjoyed a successful Golden Boy debut with a second-round knockout of winless Alexander Gutierrez (0-3, 0KOs). A body shot produced the full ten count at 1:53 of round two and the latest win for the 21-year-old Luna, who hails from Victorville, California.

Also on the show, San Diego’s Jorge Chavez (8-0, 6KOs) knocked out Nicaragua’s Marvin Solano (24-11, 8KOs) in the third round of their junior featherweight contest. T

Headlining the show, 2016 Mexican Olympian and unbeaten prospect Raul Curiel (12-0, 10KOs) faces Brooklyn’s Courtney Pennington (17-6-3, 7KOs) in a scheduled ten-round welterweight bout. Curiel has stopped each of his past seven opponents.
