Boris Grinberg, the manager of heavyweight Magomed Abdusalamov (18-1, 18KOs), says his boxer is no longer in a medically induced coma and has been disconnected from life support.

Following a vicious fight with Mike Perez on November 2nd at New York's Madison Square Garden, Magomed suffered a blood clot in his brain and underwent surgery. He was placed in a medically induced coma to reduce the swelling on his brain. At one point doctors were not sure if Magomed was going to live or ever be stable enough to come out of the coma.

"Magomed is breathing on his own and he has been disconnected from the life support machine. He has not said anything yet, but he responds to to audio and visual stimulation. When his wife and brother enter or leave the room, Magomed stares at them. He also responds to touch. Magomed is still connected to a drip, with which he receives blood-thinning drugs," Grinberg said.

"Today I spoke with the doctor and he said that tonight or tomorrow morning Magomed will be transferred from the ICU to a regular room. The doctor said that Magomed has made very significant progress, but also warned that Magomed will have a very long period of rehabilitation. On my own behalf and on behalf of friends and relatives of Magomed - I want to say thank you to all those who provided assistance to Magomed and his family, as well as those who wished him a speedy recovery."
