Former two division world champion Paulie Malignaggi has been working with Olympic gold medal winner James DeGale, and he expects "Chunky" to batter and outbox Chris Eubank Jr. on Saturday night at The O2 in London.

A loss for either boxer could spell doom, but it would certainly be the end of the road for DeGale - who went through some ups and downs in the last few years.

"I’ve been with James for a few training camps and this is the best I’ve seen him looking,’ Malignaggi told Metro.co.uk. "I’m not going to say he’s the James DeGale of the Olympics who won a gold medal, but you do have a better James DeGale than people realise."

While some believe DeGale is at the end of his career, Malignaggi feels that there is a lot left in the gas tank.

"People look at James DeGale and think he’s done. I’d say he’s got a lot more left than what he’s showing. But of course, you’re not going to get the James DeGale of 2010 or the 2008 James DeGale. But I think it’ll be enough to beat Chris Eubank Jr," Malignaggi said.

"I think Eubank needs DeGale to not be 100 percent to win the fight. I don’t think if you look at them fighter to fighter Eubank has enough in the well to dig down and pull out a bag of tricks. Eubank doesn’t have enough tricks in his bag to beat James DeGale in my opinion if James is at 100 percent or close to it. The problem with James is he shoots himself in the foot, he always promises he is 100 percent, when he really isn’t."

A lingering shoulder injury led to a decision loss to Caleb Truax, with DeGale recovering his IBF strap with a lackluster victory in the rematch.

"This camp, I’d say his shoulder is at 90 percent. I saw him throwing right hooks with it when I didn’t see [any] hooks before. I’ve seen him in a hooking motion, whereas before he couldn’t do that. It’s getting there. It’s the closest to being healthy he’s been so far," Malignaggi said.

"I do think James can outclass him. I really think we’ve got a lot of tricks in the bag. I think he can win with a 9-3 type fight. Retirement starts to come into your mind as soon as you hit your thirties because people think as soon as you have a bad performance you’re past it. I think it’s just a new motivation for James to think if he can’t win this fight he’ll retire."
