Former two division world champion Paulie Malignaggi does not believe UFC President Dana White will be able to pull of his plans for Fight Island.

White claims that his company is on the verge of securing an island, where he plans to hold weekly closed door events for his company.

From the start of the coronavirus pandemic, White has been exploring every possible scenario to stage his cards.

White plans to stage a star-studded UFC 249 in Florida on May 9, behind closed doors. Florida is now allowing closed door events for any sport with a national television following - like boxing, mixed martial arts and pro wrestling.

Initially, White tried to stage UFC 249 at an Indian casino in California, but it was postponed when ESPN and Disney executives asked White to stand down.

But Malignaggi explains that White is selling the MMA community a bag of goods that he can't make good on - and he's shocked that very few are questioning his statements.

"I think Dana is a really smart guy and he knows how stupid his fanbase is," Malignaggi told IFL TV.

"There's no way you can put it on a private island because you need a hotel to house the fighters. How are you going to televise it? What are the fighters gonna fly on the day of the fight from wherever they are? You need a hotel, where they gonna sleep? The beach? They need private quarters, rooms.

"There needs to be press conferences etc, how are you going to do it on a private island? And then the arena... you need to have a studio there, the fact that everyone has covered this... the MMA community are the dumbest. I can't imagine how it is being that dumb, I know Dana just spits out sh-t and people will believe him.

"What he's said is utterly impossible from the moment he's said it. That community is so dumb, I can't fathom being that stupid."
