Tony Bellew (26-2-1, 16 KOs) will fight for a world title in early summer.

The Liverpool cruiserweight, who is an avid Evertonian, will get a shot at the WBC title.

Bellew, 33, has been handed his chance on the back of the injured champion, Grigory Drozd (40-1, 28 KOs), being made champion in recess and the Mexican-based outfit sanctioning a clash with Ilunga Makabu (19-1, 18 KOs) –– the man who Drozd was set to face on April 8 in Moscow –– for the vacant crown.

His promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed that terms have been agreed for the fight and that a date and venue will be revealed in due course.

“Scouse nutter [Tony Bellew] hasn’t stopped plaguing me for a shot [at the world title],” Hearn wrote on social media. “[And] now it comes via a war with Makabu for the green and gold marbles.”

Everton FC’s Goodison Park is in pole position to stage the clash and Bellew is relishing the chance to fight at his beloved Blues’ stadium.

He tweeted: “So we’re nearly there. We have [the WBC], an opponent sorted [and there will be] news very soon regarding the venue, people.”

Boxing Scene reached out to aforementioned promoter Hearn for further comment, but he was unavailable.

More details regarding what could be a blockbuster stadium show will be announced as and when.
