Last month, when his fight against Robert Guerrero was cancelled one week before it was scheduled to take place, WBA super lightweight champion Marcos Maidana clearly indicated that he wanted to fight one way or another. So on Friday night Maidana made his return to score a knockout win, in four rounds, over Russian boxer Petr Petrov. The venue in Buenos Aires was packed, with 7,000 fans cheering "El Chino" on, which once again proves Maidana's popularity among the people of Argentina.

Overall, Maidana was in training camp for about fourth months. But unlike many other boxers, he's not even thinking about taking a vacation. Maidana wants to go back to the United States and he wants to have a major fight as soon as possible.

“Erik Morales has been calling me out and telling people that I didn’t want to give him the rematch. That’s bullsh*t. We’re not going to fight him on one week's notice and on his terms. I said Morales should do his part and I do mine and then we have a unification. He beat Pablo Cano and I beat Petrov so now we can have a rematch in December - if he dares. If not, that’s OK but then he should shut up,” Maidana said.

“Whichever big name they choose for me, I’m ready for December. Tim Bradley, Amir Khan, Paul McCloskey, Michael Katsidis, Humberto Soto, whatever. Just put them in front of me in December ‘cause I want to get back in the ring and I'll fight any of them."
