WBA "regular" junior welterweight champion Marcos Maidana was very surprised when he saw a recent report on BoxingScene.com, where WBC champion Erik Morales ruled out the possibility of a rematch in December. Morales' decision surprised Maidana because the Mexican veteran has been pushing for a rematch since their April war in Las Vegas, which saw Maidana win a close decision.

Morales is upset that earlier this month Maidana refused to fight him on a week's notice. When Lucas Matthysse withdrew from a scheduled fight with Morales [on September 17], the fight was offered to Maidana, but the Argentine boxer was already obligated to headline a big event on September 23 in Argentina.

“They offered me the rematch with Morales on one week's notice, for peanuts, and with contracts already signed [by me] to fight in Argentina. Morales is ready and I’m ready for December, so no excuses. He talked a lot about wanting a rematch with me, then he should fight me, or otherwise he should shut up,” Maidana said.
