Don Haskins Convention Center in El Paso, Texas - The career of Jose Felix Jr (35-2-1, 27 KOs) hit a major skid on Friday night, when he was knocked down five times in a ten round decision loss to Jonathan Maicelo (25-2, 12 KOs) in the main event of Top Rank card that was televised on UniMas.

Maicelo set the tone of the fight after he dropped Felix in the first round. He then dropped him again in the third, two more times in the fifth and one more time in the ninth.

All three judges saw it by wide margins for Maicelo, with scores of 95-90, 97-88, 96-90.

Felix, who was getting very close to securing a world title shot, had built up a win streak of eight fights since suffering his first career defeat at hands of Bryan Vasquez in April of 2014.

Macielo has now won four in a row since suffering a decision loss to then WBA champion Darleys Perez in January of 2015.

Felix starts off 2017 in a disastrous way. He will have to regroup and go back to the drawing board. Macielo on the other hand will now move forward to bigger things.

On the undercard, Arturo Marquez (6-0, 3 KOs), the son of former world champion Raul Marquez won a four round unanimous decision over Ja’Mykle Wade (2-1-1, 1 KO). The scores were 40-36, 40-36 and 39-37.

Olympic medal winner Esquiva Falcoa (17-0, 12 KOs) continued his pro run with a dominating eighth round unanimous decision over Jaime Barboza (19-11, 9 KOs).  The scores were 80-72, 80-72 and 79-73.
