An undefeated Dominican featherweight prospect plans to pay homage to Chubby Checker before he fights Friday night.

Yes, you read that correctly.

Luis Nunez became enamored with “The Twist,” a dance popularized by the aforementioned American music legend during the 1960s, when his promoter, Sampson Lewkowicz, made the 22-year-old boxer aware of it. Nunez intends to perform his version of “The Twist” as part of his ring entrance for a “ShoBox: The New Generation” main event versus Carlos Arrieta at Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, Florida (9 p.m. ET).

The ambitious Nunez hopes, however, that boxing fans turn off their televisions, computers or phones more impressed with his boxing prowess than his dancing skills.

“It means a lot to me to be in an event like this,” Nunez told BoxingScene.com. “It’s like taking another step in my career. Every day we get closer and closer to what my dream is, winning a world title. This will take me another step forward in that direction.”

Nunez (15-0, 11 KOs) believes he is much more prepared for this type of fight than Puerto Rico’s Arrieta (14-0, 8 KOs).

In Nunez’s most recent action, he shut out Cincinnati’s Jayvon Garnett (10-1, 5 KOs) by the same score, 100-90, on all three cards September 24 at Central Park Community Center in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Arrieta’s past three opponents had a combined record of 15-29 entering their losses to him and he has faced just two foes with winning records.

“He’s gonna have a different class of fighter in front of him,” Nunez said. “I’ve fought way better opposition. … He might think he’s better than me. I think I’m better than him. But [Friday night], we’ll see who’s who.”

The weight limit for their 10-round main event was moved up from 126 pounds to 130 pounds Thursday because Arrieta arrived in Orlando overweight. An unfazed Nunez still views this as his opportunity to impressively introduce himself to American boxing fans.

“I would like for people to remember me,” Nunez said, “and acknowledge me as an up-and-coming star from the Dominican Republic.”

Showtime’s three-bout broadcast Friday night will begin with an eight-round super featherweight fight in which the Dominican Republic’s Edwin De Los Santos (13-0, 12 KOs) will face William Foster III (13-0, 9 KOs), of West Haven, Connecticut. In the eight-round co-feature, another Dominican prospect, lightweight Starling Castillo (16-0, 12 KOs), will oppose Otar Eranosyan (10-0, 6 KOs), of Hollywood, Florida.
