The IBF has officially sanctioned Luis “El Mosquito” Lazarte's upcoming defense of his junior flyweight title against Nicaragua fighter Nerys Espinoza (29-5, 20KOs), scheduled for September 4 in Mar del Plata, Argentina.

Lazarte (49-9, 18KOs) makes the first defense of the title he won with an upset split decision over Carlos Tamara in May. Espinoza gets his third shot at gold. He lost by way of a wide unanimous decision to then WBA champion Roberto Vasquez in 2005. Espinoza had his second chance at glory in 2008 when he challenged then IBF champion Ulises Solis. Espinoza was dropped several times and outclassed in that match before losing another wide decision.
