According to BBC Sport, Olympian Michael Conlan is set to challenge IBF featherweight world champion Luis Alberto Lopez on May 27 at the SSE Arena in Belfast.

BoxingScene.com reported last month that Conlan-Lopez was being worked on for the May date.

Back in December, Lopez traveled to Leeds and picked up a twelve round majority decision win over Josh Warrington to capture the IBF title.

Conlan challenged for a world title in March of last year, in a Fight of The Year battle with then WBA champion Leigh Wood.

Conlan (18-1, 8 KOs) dropped Wood hard in the first round and nearly put him away. Wood was able to rally in the late rounds, dropping Conlan in the eleventh and dramatically knocking him out in the twelfth.

The Irish boxer has since recovered, with a dominant decision win over Miguel Marriaga, who was dropped three times - and a first round blowout of Karim Guerifi.

Top Rank promotes both Lopez and Conlan. Both boxers expressed interest in facing each other, but the contest faced a delay due to Lopez suffering a hand injury in the fight with Warrington.

Lopez (27-2, 15 KOs), 29-years-old, is currently on a big roll with wins over Andy Vences, Isaac Lowe, Gabe Flores, Christian Baez and Warrington.
