Last month, Erickson “The Hammer” Lubin (23-1) secured a second shot at a world title in the super welterweight division when he won an unanimous decision over Terrell Gausha in a Showtime main event broadcast. The final scores were 118-100, 116-112 and 115-113. The victory made him Jermell Charlo’s mandatory challenger.

On September 26th, Charlo added the WBA and IBF super welterweight titles to his collection when he stopped Jesion Rosario in 8 rounds. The fight headlined a dual main event pay-per-view that was also produced by Showtime.

Charlo’s next move isn't know yet but getting the WBO title that Patrick Texeira holds is all that remains in the way of him completing his quest to become the undisputed champion.

Lubin’s trainer Kevin Cunningham is hoping that they get a shot at revenge against Charlo next but made it clear that they aren’t going to just wait around and are interested in any of the top contenders.

“Hammer’s sitting in a good position and we’re waiting to see how things play out. Big props to Jermell Charlo for his KO win over Rosario. I agree with Max Kellerman, Charlo is the undisputed junior middleweight champion. Hammer’s Charlo’s WBC mandatory but Charlo has mandatories with the WBA and IBF also. There’s also talk of a Charlo-Teixeira unification for the WBO,” Cunningham told BoxingScene.com.

“We are hoping for the mandatory shot at Charlo next. If Charlo isn’t next,  I’m sure the fans wouldn’t mine seeing Erickson Lubin versus Jarret Hurd or Erickson Lubin versus Julian Williams. Most fighters that get in mandatory position sit until they get the title shot. Hammer wants to stay busy. He is willing to face the other top guys until he gets a shot.”

Charlo and Lubin added each other in 2017 when Charlo caught Lubin cold and stopped him in the first round. Lubin has won 5 straight bouts since the only loss of his professional career.
