New York - It’s hard not to bring up Canelo Alvarez (52-1-2, 35 KO’s) when Gennadiy Golovkin (39-1-1, 35 KO’s) is fighting - and vice-versa.

Golovkin has a very tough opponent in front of him in SergiyDerevyanchenko (13-1, 10 KO’s), this Saturday night, as the two battle it out for the vacant IBF middleweight title that was stripped from Canelo.

While GGG and Canelo have had two big fights, the trilogy clash will always linger.

For the moment, promoter Tom Loeffler of GGG Promotions says the focus is on the title fight on hand at Madison Square Garden.

“It will be a special fight and a slugfest,” Loeffler told BoxingScene.com. “He doesn’t believe he has lost a fight and Saturday night he begins his quest to another middleweight title run. He’s excited and it’s his second fight with Johnathan Banks and I think you’ll see why Johnathon is a top trainer in the ranks of boxing and Gennadiy will show.”

But Loeffler admits that he felt that by Golovkin signing an exclusive multi-fight deal with DAZN, the streaming service that is broadcasting the upcoming fight, it would make things easier for a trilogy with Canelo, who also has an exclusive agreement with the service.

“We can jump up and down and scream, but it doesn’t mean Canelo’s going to get in the ring,” stated Loeffler.

“We thought when Golovkin signed to DAZN that the third [Canelo] fight would happen and it would be easier in the negotiations because there’s no pay-per-view split and percentages. With DAZN you don’t have that. We thought it’d be pretty smooth. We’re focused on Sergiy, and the guys that will get in the ring with him.”

Be that as it may, the focus is on Derevyanchenko but should a third Canelo fight come up, Loeffler would certainly welcome it.

“We’re focused on the guys that get in the ring and fight him. It was hard to get him in the ring. He’s going to fight Sergiy Derevyanchenko and he has a tough fight and if the third fight happens, I’m sure it will be explosive. If he’s successful this Saturday, he’ll be a two time world champion and Canelo fighting at 175 puts Gennady as the best middleweight in the world.”
