Promoter Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions says his fighter, WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) should not be blamed for not facing some of the better names at 160-pounds.

On October 17th at New York's Madison Square Garden, Golovkin will face IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (34-2, 31 knockouts) in a unification match on HBO Pay-Pier-View.

Going into the fight, Golovkin has not exactly faced a murder's row of opponents. In his last fight in May, Golovkin took some hits but eventually overwhelmed Willie Monroe Jr.

Lemieux captured the IBF crown on June 20th after knocking down Hassan N'dam four times on pace to a twelve round decision win.

“For any criticism that fans have about Gennady and his opponents, it’s not Gennady’s fault,” Loeffler said. “They should criticize the other fighters in the division for not fighting him. We’ve gone to great lengths to try to make big fights with Gennady and the other champions don’t want to fight him.”
