Librado Andrade found his way back into the win column, returning to the ring from a ring absence of more than a year to stop local journeyman Jesus Ortega in two rounds Saturday evening in Villahermosa, Tabasco, Mexico.

The bout served in supporting capacity to an emphatic performance by unbeaten super lightweight contender Roberto Ortiz, who stopped Jorge Romero in three rounds in the evening’s Fox Deportes-televised main event.

Ortega was already facing an uphill battle, having not fought in four years and coming in as a late sub for originally scheduled opponent Eduardo Ayala. Andrade wasted no time in seizing the moment, overwhelming his countryman from the start, before a barrage of punches prompted referee Fernando Hernandez to mercifully stop the contest.

The official time was 1:16 of round two.

Andrade advances to 31-5 (23KO), scoring his first win since Aug. ’11. Ortega suffers his sixth straight loss, dating back to 2007, as he falls to 12-21 (8KO). The bout was his first since May ’09.

A shocking third round stoppage loss at the hands of Rowland Bryant last April prompted Andrade to reconsider his career path, but has since decided that he still has something left to offer the sport. It has yet to be determined whether he will remain at light heavyweight, or if the goal is to get back down to super middleweight, where he has tried and failed at three separate title shots.

The show was held in honor of the 449th anniversary of Villahermosa, the capital city of the Mexican state of Tabasco.
